If you are a coach or freelancer looking to win more clients, one of the first things you should make sure that you do is create a signature process for how you work with your typical client.

What is a signature process?

A signature process is simply a very clear outline of how you work with your clients to achieve the result that you advertise for.

It doesn’t even have to be proprietary!

Why It Works

Prospective clients feel more confident when they have an idea of what to expect. Your signature process provides the roadmap of how you are going to get them from where they are now, to where they actually want to be.

How It Helps you Win More Clients

  1. As mentioned above, it helps them feel more confident about what it looks like to work with you.
  2. It helps you to feel more confident as you describe the process and how you’re going to achieve results for your prospective clients.
  3. It lends to the impression that you’ve done this many times before. Most clients are buying both your expertise and your experience.

What It Looks Like for Health Coaches (and other kinds of coaches too!)

A signature process can consist of a few components. One might be your packages. Do you have a 12-week program? Do you have a consultation? What happens before or after a consultation? Make sure that your offers are clear.

It can also contain a protocol or methodology. For health coaches, there could be many steps that you walk every client through, even if it looks a little different for each client.

This is the “I can help you do X by addressing Y and Z” which is more convincing than just “I can help you with X”.

What It Looks Like for Freelancers to Win More Clients

Regardless of your industry, your typical project probably has several distinct phases – so lay them out! Make sure it’s clear what each phase entails and how it moves things a long so that the client will get their desired result.

For instance, my Two Week Website package is a signature process. It is something I distilled from how I approached work with many clients, but laying out the steps helps me to win more clients and gives me a clear path to share with them. It also helps me to decipher whether clients might need a different process (my Guided package) to achieve the same result.
